14 held in terror raids

SPAIN is on red alert after police arrested 14 people who were allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on Barcelona.

Interior Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba said the detainees, 12 of whom were of Pakistani origin and two from India, has suspected links with an Islamist terror network.

Officers from the Guardia Civil detained the suspects as part of an operation with the National Intelligence Centre.

Premises in the Raval area of the city were raided and bomb-making material seized.

The 14, all men, were due to appear in court on January 23.
