Illegal breeding farm busted

Police have raided an illegal exotic animal breeding farm near Málaga.
Officers from the environment department of the Guardia Civil (Seprona) raided a cortijo in Cartama after receiving calls from concerned neighbours, who had complained about suspicious movements at the farm house.
Inside the house, police found an illegal breeding centre, which specialised in exotic animals for the pet trade.
An estimated 5,000 animals – including tortoises, lizards and a monkey – were confiscated.
Meanwhile, Seprona officers have rescued a protected bird of prey in Salobreña.
The Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) was found at the Costa Aguilera Alta in a distressed state, suffering from dehydration and malnutrition.
The bird is currently being cared for at the Centre for the Recovery of Endangered Species in the Sierra Nevada.
