A BRITISH pair who bought an piece of land that was sold to them at a million euros more than its original sale price are being sought by authorities investigating the Astapa corruption scandal.

Mysteriously, the duo were the second purchasers of the plot, within hours of it being sold for the first time.

Whether they were victims of, or privy to, the dubious goings on is unclear, as reports reveal that the first and second sales took place consecutively with all the same people involved in the notary’s office at the same time.

The incident has emerged as investigators look into the scandal at Estepona Town Hall which has been rumbling on since June 2008.

And there are a total of 70 people now implicated, including the ex Mayor, Antonio Barrientos, and his ex Chief of Staff, José Flores.

The land in question belonged to Flores’ parents, but the ex- Chief’s brother has insisted he was unaware it had been sold the second time.

The National Police Economic Crime Unit believes tax fraud and money laundering resulted from the sales and is now urging the court to ask the UK authorities to locate the as yet unnamed British citizens who purchased the land.

  1. “the first and second sales took place consecutively with all the same people involved in the notary’s office”

So, a Spanish notary allowed this to happen then? Why didn’t the notary say “this looks suspicious, I’ll investigate further and call the police?”. Why indeed?

  2. lol, more clones. Is Marquess going to post next? Must be Schofield with a new alias.

Comparing the UK and Spain for corruption is laughable. The expenses scandal had a duck house and some mortgage tax avoidence, and was an exploitable loophole anyway. In Spain the politicans have hundreds of thousands of euros stuffed in pillows under their beds, and Picassos in the garage. We have mayors running their office from jail cells, and whole ayuntamientos shut down. In corruption central, Marbella, they had to provide a specially built dock in order to house the 100 defendents. Of course corruption is everywhere, on a scale, but in Spain it’s a way of life for politicians. I rest my case lol.

  3. Fred – please don’t belittle stuffing money in pillows and putting them under your bed…. that is NOT easy!
I tried it once with borrowed money, could not sleep a wink trying to “balance” on the peak of the mound… then rolled off the mound at some hour, landed on my Golden Retriever, who woke in a panic… and bit my foot.

Don’t know how corrupt Officials do it, but give them credit.
I’ll also lend my Golden Retriever to the local police. $#!t
