King of Spain recovering after lung operation

THE King of Spain is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery to remove a benign tumour from his right lung.

King Juan Carlos – a heavy smoker – is convalescing in a “totally satisfactory” way after the procedure at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona.

The Royal Palace confirmed that the king has already got up and walked around for a few minutes following the operation.

According to son Crown Prince Felipe, the king, 72, said: “As you can see, here I am, in one piece and in good shape.”
