Axarquia Rugby set to kick off new season

AXARQUIA Rugby Club will start their league season at home against El Ejido Rugby Club on 16 October 2011 at the Fernando Hierro stadium in Velez-Malaga.

This season Axarquia are aiming to build on last year’s success and are targeting a promotion place to succeed to the Andalucian 1st Division.

The league format has changed this year and the group stages have been increased to seven teams including Cordoba, Jaen, Granada and Almeria. Axarquia have further home games against Almeria on 6 November  on the 27 November against Cordoba. Axarquia Rugby invite all rugby fans to come and support them this season.

Meanwhile the Cadetes or Colts (U17s) have entered their own strong team in the league for the first time this season with dates and opposition to be confirmed.

Their first match ended in a narrow 19-17 loss to the experienced Cordoba team but coach Michael Reeve believes that the young side will be challenging for honours this year.

Axarquia Rugby are creating a strong club and really welcome all newcomers to either come and play or just to support.

Training for Axarquia Rugby Club is held at the Fernando Hierro Stadium in Velez-Malaga every Tuesday and Thursday from 19.00 for the Juniors and 20.30 for the seniors (all age groups welcome).
