Rugby season ends in a fiesta

THERE was a fiesta of rugby at the home of Axarquia Rugby club in Velez-Malaga on Saturday, 26 May 2012.

The final games of the season involved the senior first XV team, veteran team and junior players of the Axarquia club, pitched against each other and an invitation team from Malaga Rugby Club. This was a triangular tournament with the three teams all playing each other.

Played with great spirit and friendship, the team from Malaga Rugby Club deservedly won against the veterans/junior team and then against the first XV seniors squad to win the triangular competition.

In the last match there was a deciding game pitching the veterans/juniors against the 1st XV team. The experience of the veterans (including the ability to play after a few beers!), combined with the speed and agility of the juniors, overcame the first XV in the last few minutes of a great game to win by 4 tries to 3. There was a great crowd of over 150 people watching the event.

This finale of the season was celebrated by all and everyone is looking forward to a well earned rest until the rugby training starts again on the beach during the summer! Details to be announced shortly!

Everyone is welcome to attend and come and support this great rugby club of Axarquia.
