NERJA Town Hall is calling for a change in legislation after over  €180,000 of renovation funding was withheld by the Junta.

The money was promised to the town for renovating its emblematic Aguila aqueduct near Maro nearly two years ago.

However the Junta claims it cannot release the funds until other nearby towns have finished various other individual projects.

The aqueduct was built in the 19th century to carry water to the now-derelict San Joaquin sugar factory.

It still carries water for irrigation purposes.

  1. Quite possibly the Junta’s decision is related to the fact that Nerja is controlled by the Partido Popular and the Junta by the Socialists. But also to the state of public finances. For a few years big spending was the order of the day. Who cared about tomnorrow? Now cold reality has arrived. When cash is short, ancient bridges are low in priority. I think your report should include a bit more background.

How about this for a bit of back ground if Spain hadn’t been obsessed with building houses that weren’t needed, buying an apartment for every child with a BMW thrown in and politicians trousering millions of Euro’s perhaps the relatively small sum of €180,000 would be there. However to be fair the British government is no better they chose to waste tax payers money on other things.
