SCOTLAND Yard are to take over the Madeleine McCann case from the Portugese authorities following a decision from Home Secretary Theresa May .

A full-scale investigation into McCann’s disappearance will now be launched after the Met identified 20 potential suspects during a two-year-review.

Portuguese officials shelved the case in 2008, just a year after the three year-old was kidnapped from the resort in Praia da Luz, where her parents were staying.

Due to Portugal’s laws, without new evidence, the case could not be reopened.

For this reason, the Met lobbied for funding from the Home Office to pay for a Scotland Yard investigation.

Although the exact amount of the funding is unknown, it is believed to be millions of euros.

  1. At last this family may see justice. What a shocking series of bumbling eventd in Portugal, with the Police so keen to blame the parents they shelved the case. So many opportunities lost. We can only hope they will never operate like this again if a child goes missing and that Scotland Yard finally finds Madeline.

  2. Madeleine McCann was abducted by a stranger to her parents and their holiday group. The clue to finding who the abductor is, in my opinion, is in the first 6 volumes of the Polícia Judiciária files, the first 1,709 pages. Scotland Yard, PJ, and we the citizenship, together, will solve the case soon.

  3. Great news. It seems fairly evident that some of the Portuguese PJ were involved in a cover up for some reason. I bet tht bald dark skinned PJ officer who was snapped the day before with an expensive camera the day before staring at Madeleine in the playground has never been questioned!

  4. Just out of interest, a third one of the McCanns private investigators is now in prison. We had Jimenez Raso (2008-2012), Kevin Halligen (2009 – present) and now Julián Peribañez from M3. Details in El Pais. This must be a record.
