Fish stuffed with cannabis confiscated in Marbella

POLICE found a lorry load of frozen sardines with an unusual herbal stuffing this week. The consignment of fish was stuffed with 900 kilos of cannabis.

Customs officials tracked the cargo from Morocco to a dockside warehouse in Cadiz and then onto a luxury villa in Marbella.

The operation – codenamed Maria – led to the arrest of 14 suspected traffickers and the confiscation of cannabis worth more than €3.6 million.

“Officers found 325 kilos of hashish hidden inside the frozen sardines in the refrigeration truck,” said a police spokesman. “A further 570 kilos was intercepted in a warehouse of El Puerto de Santa María in Cadiz,” he added.

Police had been monitoring the gang for more than a month after the syndicate leader arrived in Spain from Morocco to plan the shipment.

  1. Well at least they died with smile on their faces! (the sardines).

Now if they would only legislated the business, that haul would have produced at least the same amount of taxation, in fact probably 9 million euros… so it’s a loss all ways around.

  2. FAO John JULY 8TH, 2013 6:23 AM “in fact probably 9 million euros …”

FACT is something that is real or true , or something that can be shown to be true or real .
So why PROBABLY as this is a Presumption not an Assumption ?
    … how was your 9M estimated ?

And Legislating a Drug like this is ill-advised , more to it than Taxation !!

  3. The ‘assumption’ is based upon 900 kilos of product, which if legalised and sold openly would have produced a taxation factor that the government would have determined, but if we took the taxation factor of petrol or cigarettes into consideration, would probably have produced that much taxation.

I would prefer simple decriminalisation, which would allow those who wished to smoke the ability to grow their own with no criminal or taxation element, however that seems unlikely, so the next best course would be legalisation with a taxation element.

If anyone actually studied the real reasoning behind these prohibition laws, and the real ‘facts’ about marijuana, they would understand that the current law is nothing more than a charter for criminal gangs, both governmental and unofficial.
