You CAN get sunburned while driving in the car… with the windows up!

ACCORDING to advice from doctors, drivers should wear sun cream in their cars even when the windows are closed.

Even though glass prevents sunburn-causing UVB rays, the cancer-causing UVA rays can still penetrate through car windows.

In a recent study of 225 men and women conducted by researchers at Stony Brook University in New York State, a ‘dismal’ 15% of people said they used sun cream ‘most of the time’ while driving even though 38% normally wear it when outside.

Two-thirds of the subjects didn’t believe they needed to wear sun cream in the car at all.

Dr. Dennis Kim, one of the researchers who conducted the study, warned that “because such a large proportion of a person’s cumulative sun exposure occurs while in a vehicle, automobile-related UVA exposure is a considerable public health concern.”

When applying sun cream before driving, remember to apply it liberally to arms and hands as they are the most exposed parts of the body in the car.
