A NUMBER of Andalucia’s beaches have been stripped of their blue flags by watchdog Asociacion de Educacion Ambient y del Consumidor (ADEAC).

A total 15 beaches have lost their blue flags, with the most commonly cited problems being the lack of lifeguards, and issues of cleanliness.

The affected beaches are: Malapesquera y Carvajal (Benalmádena-Málaga), Sabinillas (Manilva-Málaga), La Alcaidesa (La Línea de la Concepción y San Roque-Cádiz), Torreguadiaro y Cala Sardina (San Roque), La Barrosa y Sancti Petri (Chiclana de la Frontera-Cádiz), Marina de la Torre, Venta del Bancal-Las Ventanicas, Descargador y Piedra Villazar (Mojácar Almería), Matalascañas (Almonte-Huelva), Central y La Gaviota, Isla Cristina.

  1. I still cannot believe how Nerja manages to retain it’s flags with the raw sewage clearly visible floating on the shoreline year after year.

Raw sewage continues to be dumped into the sea due to the lack of a sewage treatment works in Nerja. In 2013 this is just unacceptable and makes a mockery of these flag awards.

  2. About time. I am sick of seeing shoals of toilet trout bobbing through the water surrounded by slick of filth and slurry with children playing in it. I won’t be going on holiday on the costa del Sol again until they join the rest of us in the 21st century and sort it out. It’s disgusting!

  3. Astounded at La Barrosa being on the list. The beach here is 8 kms of beautiful sand washed by the Atlantic tides and yes there are lifeguards and a Cruz Roja station. My husband and son walk the length of the beach every two or three days throughout a 16 day holiday.

    Saludos. Lindsay
