ACTRESS Melanie Griffith has slammed Hollywood’s obsession with youth after complaining she has not worked on a mainstream film for years.

The 56-year-old, who is married to Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, was speaking during an appearance at the Starlite festival in Marbella.

Meanwhile her daughter Dakota Johnson – whose father is Griffith’s first husband Don Johnson – has been revealed as being the lead actress for a screen version of risque blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey.

  1. If she’d left her face alone instead of re-designing it, she might have been given parts for her age group. As it is she doesn’t quite fit into any particular category i.e. Mum/grandmother parts. Or does she still think she should be cast as a dolly bird, hence no work?

  2. Melanie was making a general point whilst one comment about her her specifically were really bitchy, many other female actors have said the same over the years.

Hollywood is and always has been ageist and sexist, note also that although 60% of Americans are obese they never appear in US made films or TV programmes – bad PR for the ‘American Dream’.

Ageism is unfortunately rampant in the UK as well. Nearly all the weather forecastors here in France are elderly women in their 60s’ and many programmes are fronted by mature women and why not.
