A CONTROVERSIAL tramline which was forced to close due to massive financial losses could be set to reopen.
The Junta is taking bids from potential operators for the route between Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar.
The scheme was scrapped last year after having been in operation for just six years.
The regional government invested €40 million in the project but failed to recoup the money.
Efforts to reduce ticket prices and subsidise the route failed and the trams were subsequently packed off to Australia.
The cars have since been rented to authorities in Sydney at a cost of €200,000 a year.

As a resident of Torre Del Mar I was a bit disappointed when it closed (I don’t have a car), so I for one would love to see it re-open. The replacement bus service is a bit hit-and-miss.
The trams are still in Sydney and operating, but they will probably return by the end of this year. CAF are building new trams, some have already been delivered.
