French air traffic control strike causes delays at Spanish airports

TRAVELLERS into and out of Spain are facing disruption today as a strike by French air traffic controllers has resulted in the cancellation and delay of flights across Europe.

More than half of the flights arriving in Malaga airport this morning were subject to delays of at least 15 minutes, with some touching down almost two hours after their scheduled arrival time.

Departures were also hit, and just 34% of flights out of the airport took off on time.

Easyjet said it had cancelled 56 of the 1,266 flights that were due to travel today.

A spokesperson said passengers could transfer tickets to a different flight free of charge, or claim a refund through the usual channels.

Ryanair, meanwhile, cancelled 70 flights of which nine were due to touch down in Spain.

In a statement, the airline said: “Ryanair regrets to advise passengers that over 70 flight will be cancelled on Thursday October 10 due to French ATC strikes, and further delays and cancellations are likely. We sincerely apologise to all passengers who have had their travel plans disrupted by these unjustified strikes.”
