AN expat has been arrested after leaving her three-year-old daughter alone in her Fuengirola apartment on New Year’s Eve to go drinking in a nearby bar.

Neighbours of the woman, believed to be from Paraguay, called the police when they heard the little girl crying uncontrollably on the apartment’s terrace.

When they could not get an answer after repeatedly ringing the apartment’s front door, the police broke in and found the child alone.

The mother arrived home soon after and told the police that she had merely gone to the local bar for a quick drink with a friend after she had checked that her daughter was asleep.

  1. How long will it be before someone – like her for example – cites the “McCann defence”. They did it, their child is missing, presumed dead, and they have never been prosecuted, nor so far as we can see, even adequately investigated. So why pick on anyone else, particularly since her child seems to have been OK.

  2. Has she set up a private limited company (instead of a charity) and asked for donations towards her legal fees? She could afford the best lawyers and to smear all those who ask why she went out drinking and left her child. Are the police 3rd world, bungling and only concerned about harming tourism because they stated she was guilty? Tsk. They can be such haters.

  3. I would imagine there’s not that much money left in the pot now? I know they keep themselves in the forefront of people’s lives with their faces in the media but especially since Crimewatch, would people really have bothered donating? More and more people are waking up to the alternative theories. It will only be a matter of time before the fund runs dry. I understand the libel trial is costing them a fortune. As for CR and the pro bono work, I suspect that may have been right at the beginning for maybe one or two aspects but not the other dozens of lawsuits that have since been initiated.

  4. As I predicted, a lawyer just has used the McCann defence, and got it through !
“Lawyer Gareth Morgan begged magistrates not to send the 44-year-old to prison.
She had admitted leaving her five-year-old, who has Asperger’s syndrome, on his own at home.
He claimed the defendant was less neglectful than Kate and Gerry McCann, whose daughter Madeleine vanished in Portugal in 2007.
Mr Morgan said: “The McCanns were guilty of child neglect for leaving their little girl much longer than my client. They were never prosecuted for it.”
