MALAGA AIRPORT is one of the most confusing foreign airports for British people to navigate, according to new research.

Holidaymakers have been left baffled by bad signage at the airport, which came top of the nationwide survey commissioned by car hire broker Holiday Autos.

Orlando and Faro airports were also in the top three.

Other Spanish destinations did not fare well either, with Alicante and Palma de Mallorca making it onto the list.

Sydney Airport was found to be by far the most straightforward to navigate, closely followed by Berlin, Brussels, Geneva and Schipol, according to the OnePoll survey.

Findings also showed that each holidaymaker spent well over half an hour travelling from the gate to the car hire desk on arrival, the survey said.

Of the 2,000 people questioned, 47% cited poor signage as the most common causes of confusion.

The survey also found that people were frustrated by the long walk through the terminal, at just under half a mile, combined with the 17 minutes on average it takes to reach a main road once you’re out of the terminal building.

Younger people found the route from the airport car park to the main road the most perplexing, taking on average five minutes longer than their middle-aged counterparts by spending around 20 minutes trying to find the right exit, it said.

  1. Yeah Malaga Airport is shockingly expensive, it’s like they learnt from UK airports then expanded on it, paid 12 euros for bottle of water, sandwich and pack of crisps had same in Pret a Manager at Luton and it was £6 and better

  2. Well, I suppose no-one forces anyone to buy anything. But what I find really irritating is that to get to the departure gates you are forced to go through an obstacle course of cosmetic, tobacco and drinks islands, policed by an army of dollies covered in warpaint. Their labour costs must be horrendous. No wonder their prices are so high.

But Málaga is not alone. East Midlands is exactly the same.

  3. Before I would complain about UK airports but now Malaga is far more expensive and it seems ridiculous you are forced to pay such high prices even for having something simple like a coffee. Of course I imagine the prices are forced high by not only high labour cost but also high rents but for sure a large % is the businesses at the airport taking advantage of the fact that people don’t have an option

  4. This article is about navigational difficulties, not high prices. ALL airport catering is a blatant rip-off. Doubt if the price of a drink and snack would actually make people avoid a particular airport. Do as we do, take your own sandwiches and drinks and laugh at the mugs who didn’t.
