Exclusive by Jon Clarke in Carboneras

THE order to begin one of the world’s largest demolition jobs could arrive today.

Andalucia’s High Court (TSJA) is set to rule if the 411 room Algarrobico Hotel should be finally torn down.

A staggering 11 years since it was given a license by Carboneras Town Hall, developer Azata del Sol might have to reverse a process that has seen 11 stories of concrete installed on a virgin beach INSIDE a natural park.

Both Greenpeace, Ecologistas en Accion and the Olive Press have long argued that the monolith should not have been built within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

The developer got its license despite local and national groups campaigning that it was ‘unsustainable’ and illegal, built just 30 Metres from the unspoilt Playa Algarrobico, in Almeria.

Today judge Rafael Toledano will finally rule on the 1,633 files of evidence compiled since Almeria’s Court Number 2 ruled its license was illegal in 2008.

Both the Andalucian and Madrid governments have ordered a decision to be finally made.

If the judge rules against it, demolition teams are expected to take up to two years to return the land to its original state.

The cost is estimated at ‘tens of millions ‘ of euros.

Yesterday four cranes still towered over the construction while a group of builders were busy moving materials.

  1. Yes “Spain in action” indeed… It’s only been 11 years but the TSJA announced this afternoon it needs 10 more days of ‘deliberations’… Apparently a high level phone call came in at the last minute… That will be Azata’s enchufa to Rajoy, probably in the shape and form of a bulky envelope… Watch this space!

  2. Only one hotel here in the UK there is a “serious” rumour that
the government has let it be known that the rules on building
residential properties in the UKs national parks to ease housing shortages may be feasible so the word feasibility could have new meanings.

  3. This story is a monument to complete failure. OP, I hope you are campaigning with the same level of enthusiasm on behalf of all the British expats who are facing demolition thanks to the Junta de Andalucia. These people represent a large percentage of your readership and you should be dedicating your time to their cause. It would seem that Andalucia is trying to become the demolition capital of the world which is about the full extent of their capabilities. They can add that to their other title which is “Banana Republic of Spain 2014”. What a bunch of twats.

  4. We often talk about individuals not buying in Spain because of illegal buildds but what about Companies. Maybe this hotel was not big enough to be noticed by the authorities and that is how it got so far! If you had a chain of restaurants or hotels, would you really open in Spain, no, thought not. I was watching a place in the sun a few weeks back and the price of properties in Gib is 3 or 4 times higher than Spain, I wonder why that is, maybe becasue it is run properly. Off to Spain tomorrow, wi-fi installed Friday. Dr Rt Hon Derek Roger Stevens,if I see someone in white socks and sandals drinking tea smiling away without a care in the world I will think of you, happy as Larry.

  5. The provincial government, run by the PP, is in favour of the hotel – suggesting to just remove a swimming pool! The local town hall, now a PSOE-clone, is clearly in favour of the hotel, but the regional president, Susana Díaz, wants to ‘give employment’ to Carboneras by knocking the damn thing down, and then… ‘by living from opportunities from the national park which surrounds the town’. What, by picking nettles?

  6. Yes you certainly INcredibly tedious Fred. ‘I love you Jon!’ ha ha ha. FAWNING.. there’s another one for you.

I’m PROactive in the community Reap, not what you portray here/in your twisted mind. Whereas someone like yourself are probably more active like a cancer on whatever community you exist in. If you’ve taken any offense to my fight against wrongs and hateful words that come out of your mouth, it must be simply be the truth that is hurting.

Glad you keep remembering me anyhow. When I see UKIP on tv I reciprocate.
