MORE than 1,800 African migrants have stormed the border fence into Melilla this week, as migratory pressures on the Spanish enclaves dramatically escalate.

Spanish and Moroccan border police successfully held back the two separate attempts, the first of which saw 1,000 migrants storm the fence, while the second saw around 800.

In the second attempt 10 sub-Saharans successfully reached European soil, crying out ‘Spain, freedom, freedom!’ and ‘Bosa, bosa’, which means ‘victory’.

Recent months have witnessed several coordinated attempts on the border fences, causing Madrid to increase the Guardia Civil and Policia de Nacional presence at the border.

This year alone more than 1,600 undocumented sub-Saharans have entered the north-African Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, despite increased security measures – already more than in the whole of 2013.

Heads of both enclaves have requested urgent measures from Madrid.
“This is Europe’s problem, not just ours,” they insisted.

  1. The problems concerning the spanish frontiers are Spain´s problems.

The african inmigrants dont want to stay in the enclaves. They want to go to UE.

If Ceuta and Melilla would not exist, the African inmigrants would sail to the shores of the South of Spain.

The solution for to stop the inmigration would be to built a viable economy in Africa.

But till the present, in Europe we only have thought in Africa looking for spoil.

  2. Please open the fences of Europe to these poor African brothers of yours. Embrace them with the same energy and passion that you showed when you supported the ANC against the Apartheid regime in South Africa. Show us your compassion and commitment now. Get the unions, the woman and the youth involved. Put pressure on African countries to send you more of these poor immigrants.
You should have lots of space for them in Spain. Give them the homes and property you took when you expelled the Jews in 1492.

  3. No Jane. It is actually sad that it has come to this. Europe is drowning in the after-effects of its own liberalism. Exactly for the same reason as that nobody cares what happens to Afrikaners in South Africa we would not care what happens in Europe. The argument being:”It is of their own making”

  4. Andre de Kock, you can’t seriously expect Spain to take in extra people when they have so many problems of their own (some of their own making admittedly) like very high unemployment for example. It is unrealistic and they simply cannot afford it.

What Spain really needs right now is for wealthy people to buy up all the empty properties and spend their large pensions in Spain and boost the economy. If only they could get their act together, the place could be transformed but as things stand at the moment, they are not in a position to sort out the problems of the world.
