Cocaine-filled pineapples found on ship arriving in Algeciras

PINEAPPLES stuffed with 2,500kg of cocaine have been discovered in a ship container by Guardia Civil officers at the port of Algeciras.

The ‘special’ cargo had been sent from Costa Rica, but was located by border police upon its arrival in the city.

The Spanish Civil Guard had reportedly been tipped off by international security agencies about the arrival of large amounts of the recreational drug from South America.

Police did not initially bust the drug-traffickers, but instead followed the cargo up to Madrid as part of Operation Moin.

The seized cocaine would have a street value of €150 million, according to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial.

So far four arrests have been made under the operation.
