BARCELONA have sacked an member of their museum staff who was spotted making a racist monkey gesture at Racing Santander striker Mamadou Kone at the weekend.

The woman, who was with Llagostera supporters, was identified by the Catalan club and reported to the police after the game.

Racism has been a hot topic in Spain lately after Barcelona defender Dani Alves ate a banana which was thrown at him during a recent game.

  1. What is it about football that engenders this kind of behaviour ? Does it say something about the limited intelligence of its adherents ? There is no credibility in claiming “a few bad apples”, the practice is too widespread for that. The only conclusion is, that it’s a game for morons.

  2. Not at all Reap. I didn’t say that, but the subject of the piece was football, that’s what my comment was about.
Racism festers everywhere, often acceptably in some places. For instance, in the brains of UKIP supporters.

  3. The OED offers the following definition of Racism:

“The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”

Is it only me that finds the irony in Stefanjo’s suggestion that all football supporters are moronic racists? Or is stereotyping a whole swathe of humanity based upon a sport that they may happen to enjoy something different?

  4. Didn’t say ALL football freaks are racist, just that it’s a game for morons. Look at the behaviour they tolerate in their ranks.
No one is bothered about this woman, examine the photo, does anyone around her seem upset or surprised at what she’s doing?
