Humans are ‘too stupid’ to meet aliens

et

A PROFESSOR has claimed that we should end the search for aliens, because we are too ignorant to meet them.

Gabriel de la Torre, from the Department of Psychology at the University of Cadiz, conducted a study to see how prepared we are to meet other intelligent life.

After sending a questionnaire to 116 students in Spain, the US and Italy, he concluded our general level of ignorance and strong religious beliefs would render us shocked if we actually made contact.

De la Torre said he used students because they ‘will be the future politicians, scientists, the people in charge, so I wanted to know what their knowledge’.

Since 1984 the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute (Seti) has been looking for signs of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

The project has now gone further than ever before, sending out messages from earth to try to contact other lifeforms.

To date nothing has been found, but the search continues unabated.

  1. Because 117 students limited to just two countries and cultures is surely a large enough sample size to come to a conclusion that applies to the entire human race. What kind of psychology professor is this?

  2. Humans may never truly comprehend any species intelligent enough to travel the vast distances of interstellar space, but it is not the stupidity of mankind but violence that will keep visitors from making contact. We are nothing more than hairless angry apes with horrific weapons (nukes, etc). Humans are also arrogant enough to believe that they are the smartest species in the Universe.
