BRITISH coffee chain Costa Coffee will be opening a new café in Fuengirola in June.
Only the second Costa café in Andalucia – and the sixth in the whole of Spain – the Costa Coffee with open in the Miramar Shopping Centre in Fuengirola, on June 9.
Costa Coffee won Allegra Strategies prestigious prize of ‘Europe’s favourite coffee shop’ in 2013.
Is yet another coffee shop really needed in Spain? There again, Starclucks make it work despite selling at a price three times elsewwhere.
Try one Squid. you may be pleasantly surprised. If they are run like the Brit shops, you get good coffee, comfy seats polite staff and free wi-fi. Sure, it’s cheaper at home, but isn’t everything ?
You’d have to be an idiot to go to one of these expensive chains.. in SPAIN, where most coffee is a) cheap and b) fantastic!
Coffee chains in the UK like Costa, Starclucks, Nero etc are overpriced and terrible value for money, not made any better by the fact you queue for ages to get served. Yes the seats are normally new and shiny, but that’s about the only positive thing about them.

Plenty of cafe-bars (and pubs) in Madrid with comfy seats, free wi-fi etc Fred. I’m sure it’s the same in other cities Fred.
I know it’s a big “if” Fred, but as I said, IF these Costas are run like the Brit shops. Perhaps Nirvana can be imported?
Must agree about Starbucks and Cafe Nero. One is American and the other has paid no corporation tax for three years.
Watch out for the God-botherers in Costa though !

Bet it won’t be a euro either! Stick to the Spanish ventas where the coffees are great anyway! Hopefully Spain won’t become one massive Costa outlet like England has!! We don’t need Costya Coffee.
Big W. What’s wrong with the coffee in Spanish establishments? I always enjoy it and is better than what is served as coffee in UK.
Nothing wrong with Spanish coffee, or the establishments it’s served in. Nothing wrong with Spanish chips either. Doesn’t mean there isn’t room for British chip shops as well.
Same goes for coffee shops. Taste is subjective, different strokes for different folks. This is Europe after all, it’s open for anyone to make a crust. Costas certainly do that.
Boycott them if you don’t like them, they’ll still get by.
Fawlty Towers comes to mind when i enter any Spanish establishment. Wifi at inland Spanish coffee shops, never seen it but there again we will never see a costa coffee there either. The big business’s are not paying all their taxes and although the locals will not be doing this either at least they have some dinner money. There is one restaurant that has Wifi (whifee) in the countryside where I go. Many Spanish peope in this Village do not even know what a computer is. Some are even in the mountains Monday to Friday with their goats and donkeys, that is not a joke BTW.
Always found service far more prompt in Spanish bar-cafes – well the ones I frequent in Spanish towns and cities. That’s a big minus for the Costas and Starclucks back home – it takes an eternity to get served. Seats are normally good though – once you get served and have paid a small fortune. As for a lack of wi-fi establishments – they’re everywhere in Spanish towns and cities. Of course there may be isolated villages where you don’t get this – but what do you expect if you move there? A bit like complaining of too many tourists if you choose to live on the coast…
Coffee in Malaga is lovely and a hell of alot cheaper than costa ..if I ever get coffee here in Manchester I go in pret or local coffee shops
Perhaps the answer is to serve decent cakes, and this is where some local places (not all) fall down. You know there will be cakes/biscuits to a certain standard in the big chains, yet the smart local operator can combat this if they choose.
I just don’t find Costa coffee good, neither their cookies and cakes. There are much better small coffee/tea shops in both countries and cheaper.
