ACCUSED murderer of Spanish politician Isaias Carrasco has been acquitted on lack of evidence some six years after the assassination by Spain’s National Court.

The acquitted, Beinat Aguinagalde Ugartemendia, is part of the Basque nationalist group known as ETA.

When police investigated the murder in 2008, they concluded that the incident bore all the landmarks of an ETA attack.

Carrasco was a town councilor and member of Spain’s ruling socialist party, making him a likely target for the terrorist group’s separatist interests.

Aguinagalde was released on account of weak evidence and his presentation of an alibi, testifying that he was taking a medical school exam at the University of the Basque Country during the time of the assassination.

  1. Don’t understand how this man can be described as an assassin when he has been released for lack of evidence?
Doesn’t that make him an innocent man? Ignoring of course, his membership of a banned group, which might qualify him as a terrorist.
