REMEMBER how long it has been since your last cigarette?

According to a recent World Health Organisation study now shows that smoking has been linked with memory disorders.

The study concluded that smoking could be attributed not only to 14% of Alzheimer’s cases, but more shockingly, that nicotine may lead to dementia.

Smoking has been shown in the past to cause anteriosclerosis, a hardening of arteries which, if in the brain, can deprive the brain of oxygen and lead to certain types of dementia.

Tobacco may also cause oxidative stress, which leads to a type of neural inflammation peresent in Alzheimer’s brains.

Smoking is rampant both on the Costa del Sol and Spain at large, where over 35% of men and 25% of women consider themselves smokers.

The World Health Organisation insists that those exposed to secondhand smoke are in danger as well – with smoke in households increasing dementia risks by up to 78%.

  1. Well that’s odd, because:

“Nicotine is a widely seen drug found in tobacco products. It is usually associated with the negative effects of smoking, including the addiction and cravings. However, nicotine can be helpful for people with pathological disease states such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and schizophrenia.”

    And:

“Cigarette smokers are less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease, a condition marked by the death of certain nerve cells that use the neurotransmitter dopamine, causing a progressive loss of muscle control.”

Tobacco Control caught telling lies yet again? We shouldn’t be surprised – it’s been their modus operandum for the last few decades.

  2. I agree with:

The Alzheimers/Dementia affected people I had to deal with were non-smokers who hated cigarette smoke. Had they been smokers trying to pursue their habit it would have been impossible to look after them!!! They would have caused fires everywhere!!
