Spanish farmers at war with French over cheap peaches

FRENCH farmers are groaning about cheap Spanish peaches invading their market and cutting them out of the business.

They accuse Spanish growers of “dumping” their low-cost peaches into French stores, setting prices only once they get across the border to ensure they beat out any French products.

French agriculture minister Stephane Le Foll announced that all imported produce will be checked for compliance with produce regulations, following allegations that Spain has broken EU rules by failing to report factual information about their fruit and veg’s origins and quality.

Spanish farmers’ federations have rallied against the accusations, saying they are not to blame for the ‘fruit crisis’ that is affecting Europe.
