THE first and only ebola patient brought into Spain, Father Miguel Pajares (75), has died this morning.

Pajares, who contracted the disease while working in a Catholic ebola clinic in Liberia, was transferred to Carlos III Hospital in Madrid on Thursday for treatment.

He began an experimental drug treatment ZMapp on Saturday, which Spain’s Ministry of Health approved on an experimental basis.

After reporting that he was in ‘stable condition’ the hospital stopped releasing health reports on Pajares’ request, though news channel EFE reported breathing problems in the hours before his death.

There have been over 1,000 ebola-related deaths worldwide, according to the latest WHO statistics.
