Man in hospital after 1,500 litres dropped on him by plane for Ice Bucket Challenge

A BELGIAN man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after getting 1,500 litres of water dumped on him by a plane in Catalunya for the Ice Bucket Challenge.

It was feared the 51-year-old had suffered internal injuries from the stunt at Empuriabrava aerodrome in Girona.

But doctors have now confirmed he is recovering well and was lucky to only suffer minor wounds.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, a campaign to help those suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), has taken social media by storm.

Participants film themselves having a bucket full of ice water tipped over their head before nominating friends to do the same, encouraging people to donate.

According to the head of Skydive Empuriabrava, Rolf Kuratle, the victim had organised the stunt with a friend who was flying the plane.

It has been reported that the friends miscalculated the amount of water that should be used.

So far €47 million has been raised for research into the degenerative condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
