Jacqueline Fanchini (Reporter)GIBRALTAR’S new stamp will set a record for ‘Most words on a postage stamp’ when it is released on Gibraltar’s National Day, September 10.
The £2 stamp is part of a set of five that commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Evacuation of the civilian population of Gibraltar and details the WWII event in 2,183 words.
Designed by local artist Mr Steven Perera the 40x32mm stamp will be sold from the Philatelic Shop outside the main Post Office.
The pack of 5 stamps includes a short five page condensed history of what these Gibraltarians endured, some until 1952, when they were finally able to return home, and which would enlighten those who have any doubts or wish to know as to one more reason for the deep rooted ties and sentiments which binds us to this little piece of Rock we call home, to the resilience of its people, their strength, and never faltering desire to remain who we are and have always been, Gibraltarian and British and proud to be both.
