THE people of Gibraltar have launched a petition demanding Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II makes an official to the Rock.

Volunteers have been petitioning out on the Piazza since Wednesday, and now have an estimated 3,000 signatures.

Mastermind of the petition, Trevor Bickerstaff, was joined by some of the Rock’s favourite characters, including Bill Cerisola and estate agent Solomon Levy.

“We want to invite the Queen to come down and have some tea and scones with us,” said Cerisola.

There is also an online petition for those who are unable to meet the team on the Piazza, which has been signed by 547 people.

Anthony Holmes commented: “It is time she came to Gibraltar.”

The Queen last visited Gibraltar 60 years ago – on May 10 and 11 1954 – although the UK foreign affairs committee raised the possibility of a visit last March.

To add your signature to the petition, the team will be petitioning on the Piazza again tomorrow, or alternatively sign it online at:

  1. Do be completely honest with you, we have no interest in seeing Gibraltar become part of Spain because we don’t want to have to put up with 30000 arrogant British Andalusians of Spanish heritage whose main sources of income are smuggling, money laundering and other illegal activities and who bring absolutely nothing of real value to Spain. Rest assured that we have absolutely no interest in putting up with you lot!

What is important is that all parties comply with the Treaty of Utrecht by limiting to the greatest extent possible cross border trade and traffic. The new border arrangement together with the possibility of imposing a congestion charge is the way forward.

Once the UK leaves the EU, the long term solution will be to close down the land border completely and to set up a ferry service from Algeciras to Gibraltar.

  3. Ciudadanos, the Treaty of Utrecht has long been overtaken bu subsequent treaties, starting with Seville 1729 and including the TFEU, somthere won’t be any closing of the frontier or tax to cross…

Spain sells more to Gibraltar than it sells to Japan, and that cross border trade earns your country valuable forex.

Even if the UK leaves the EU, don’t rule out some form of free movement being negotiated as per Switzerland or Norway, and that would be a negotiation with the EU, Spain will just have to lump it and do what Brussels says…

  4. Cross border trade in not everything, we used to sell sand and concrete to Gibraltar but not any longer.

When the the UK leaves the EU and the border is closed down completely, we can all go back to the good old days when the border was closed and there was peace and quiet.

  5. You still sell sand, rocks and concrete to Gibraltar Ciudadanos. I saw a truck full of rocks going into Gibraltar just last week… Get used to it, there’s nothing you can do. Free movement of goods within the EU, and if the UK leaves, the negotiations will be between the UK and the EU. Madrid will have no say. The EU sells way more to the UK than it buys from the UK, so I don’t see the borders closing any time soon…

  6. Spain is just jealous about Gibraltar. How we need to look at it, is Spain is just somewhere for us to find more cheap labour and slaves. They come and clean our streets, serve us coffee and empty our bins.

Thank you Spain. We may give a few more jobs next year!
