THE first phase of a coastal path that is to line the coast from La Cala to Fuengirola was inaugurated today in Mijas.

Angel Nozal, Mijas Mayor, and Elías Bendodo, President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, cut the ribbon to the first 5km phase of the path which goes from La Cala to Calahonda.

The €2 million required to build the wooden path was fully funded by the Provincial Government of Malaga and is a trail that can be used by walkers and cyclists alike.

“The coastal path is a project that won all those who live in Mijas. Earn residents and visitors, because they can better enjoy the beaches, gain property owners in the area because their homes are revalued and win business, as bars or hotels, which are installed in the area, “said Nozal.

The second phase will stretch over Calahonda to La Luna beach while the third will go from La Luna and end in Fuengirola; the permits and funding for these are still being processed.

  1. Enjoyed several strolls along the boardwalk from Doña Lola to Luna beach last week. Great improvement and has enhanced the beach experience. Would really like to see it extended to Cabopino harbour. That would be excellent

  2. As an owner of a property right on the front it will decimate our view………. Everyone I know who has beach front properties feel the same. At presant we have 15m stretch of lawn then straight onto the beach, now we have been told that we coud be losing 6m of our lawn and this high board walk will block out our view of the beach and sea ! – Yeah great for anyone visiting, but a kick in teeth for owners on the seafront. Also think the crime rate will go through the roof as access will be so much easier.
    …………..sorry ……not a fan of it :(

  3. To be fair Mike, you are lucky to BE so close to the beach, view or no view. No-one should have a dwelling closer than a couple of hundred metres from the sand. That’s one of the things contributing to the desecration of the coastline.

  4. Mike P – did you actually read your post before sending it. You have hundreds of people passing you property everyday, do you think one of them may spot billy burglar climbing out your patio door with your 60 inch plasma and where are the going to go. They will have to carry your stuff along the boardwalk to one of the few gaps….l or maybe you think they could swim back to where they came from. It’s called development, improving things for the better, this is amazing fir the area and a much needed boost for businesses along the coast!
