A COACH full of passengers had a lucky escape near the village of Montejaque in the Serrania de Ronda this morning when their vehicle lost control on snow-covered roads.

As the vehicle negotiated a steep, narrow mountain pass near the abandoned Hundidero dam it lost traction and started sliding backwards towards a sheer drop of several hundred metres.

Luckily the bus was brought to a stop by crash barrier – although the ground around it started to break away.

No-one was injured and the passengers disembarked and made their way to Montejaque on foot.

The Guardia Civil were quickly on the scene while attempts were made to recover the vehicle which totally blocked the MA 505 Presa de Caballeros road at Tavizna.

On 27 April, 1966 a school bus went off the road in a similar area. Seven died and forty-five were injured.

  1. The roads up there are quite dangerous and the drive down put me off purchasing in this area years ago. Yes, it’s an hour from Marbella, but try driving there and back every day, especially in bad weather. On top of that you are competing with tourist buses that are going to see the Gorge. No thankyou lol.
