AN American youth is stable in intensive care in hospital after suffering a 40cm wound in the left thigh and damage to back muscles  during the first day of Ciudad Rodrigo’s “Carnaval del Toro”.

Benjamin Miller from Georgia was severely gored and tossed by one of the fighting bulls.

Hospital surgeon Enrique Crespo said it was the “biggest wound I’ve ever had to operate on.”

The 20-year-old student underwent three hours of surgery but is now reported to be in a stable condition.

According to Cruz Roja sources a total of 23 people were injured to varying degrees.
