BREAKING: Plane carrying 148 people crashes in French Alps en route from Spain to Germany

PlaneCrashA PASSENGER plane has crashed in the French Alps en route from Spain to Germany.

Carrying 142 passengers and six crew, the Airbus A320 was flying to Dusseldorf from Barcelona.

It disappeared from radar in the Alpes de Hautes Provence at around 11am.

Debris from the jet, operated by Lufthansa’s Germanwings airline, was found in the area.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown.

A spokesman for the DGAC aviation authority said the airplane crashed near the town of Barcelonnette about 100 km north of Nice.
