THE Junta de Andalucia has given the green light for the grand return of the San Roque casino.

The reopening of the casino, closed in 2010 after ten years of inactivity, will bring more than 200 jobs directly and indirectly to the surrounding area.

Austrian firm Novomatic is behind the project, which will also see €5 million pumped into creating a leisure centre, cinema, nightclub, spa and hotel with 50 rooms.

Admiral Casinos SA will run the casino, which closed five years ago when French group Partouche decided to lay off 40 workers after substantial losses.

Minister of Finance and Public administration Maria Jesus Montero praised the licencing board’s decision to give the casino full approval.

“The town hall is aiming to create a climate of confidence and attract investment from private businesses, in order to create employment opportunities,” she said.

Novomatic, Europe’s largest gaming group, operates in more than 80 countries.

  1. Fred, sensible comment. George – even a p/head cannot drink money away at the rate of knots that a gambler can – try and input a sensible comment.

  2. Casinos are cesspits, they attract a whole host of other problems, drugs and prostitution being the most obvious. What would you rather have George, a casino or a university?
