SPAIN are among a number of nations to ignore a UEFA pact to vote for Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein in Friday’s FIFA presidential election.

A pre-vote pact had been arranged by UEFA to oust Sepp Blatter after recent corruption, bribery and money laundering allegations called the footballing body’s integrity into question.

Instead Spain voted in favour of current scandal-ridden FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.

Other UEFA members who ignored UEFA chief Michel Platini and voted for Blatter include Platini’s native France and Russia.

Russia are keen supporters of Blatter after they were awarded the 2018 World Cup and both France and Spain are set to benefit from the Qatari competition in 2022.

It is thought that as many as 18 European football federations voted for Blatter to remain in the hot seat.
