LESS than a year ago Ashya King triggered an international manhunt when his parents took him from hospital in the UK and fled to Spain after being refused the treatment they wanted for his brain tumour.

In a heartbreaking series of events, Brett and Nagmeh King were taken from their extremely ill son and locked up after Hampshire police issued an extradition order.

But Ashya, now 6, has been given the all-clear after proton beam therapy in Prague last October, and today is the time for celebration.

A party will be held today (Saturday) at the Marbella International Highcare Hospital by the Association for a Smile, for Ashya and 13 other young cancer patients.

It was the hospital’s director, Dr Hernan Cortes Funes, who recommended the expensive proton beam treatment for Ashya.

While the long-term outcome of the treatment is not yet clear, Ashy’s parents revealed he appeared to be cancer-free in March.

The King family now live full-time in Casares, but plan to move back to England at some point for work.
