INFANT: The boy was born on June 30

THE 37-year-old mother of a baby rescued from a rubbish bin in Madrid has been arrested by the Guardia Civil.

The woman, who is Colombian, has three older children. Her husband was initially detained but has since been released, as police do not believe he was involved in his son’s abandonment.

The baby was discovered inside a plastic bag stuffed into a rucksack in an underground waste unit.

The two-week-old infant is now in the care of Madrid regional social services. He is said to be in good health.
