THE life of the pinup boy of bullfighting is touch and go after being gored in the abdomen.

Dubbed the David Beckham of bullfighting, Rivera Ordonez, is fighting for his life after being gored by a bull in Aragon.

Ordonez’s father, Paquirri Ordonez, died in the ring after being gored in ‘almost identical’ fashion 30 years ago.

After he was gored he remained conscious as emergency services treated him in the Huesca bull ring – where they operated on a 25 centimetre wound for over two hours.

He is now in hospital and is in a critical condition. If he lives doctors have said he may be paralysed and will ‘never be a bullfighter again’.

Ordonez comes from a long-line of bullfighters stretching back to his great-grandfather, Cayetano Ordonez, who was the inspiration for Ernest Hemingway’s classic The Sun Also Rises.

Fellow American author Orson Wells was also friends with Cayetano and his ashes are buried on the Ordonez’s family grounds in Ronda.

Ordonez is set to become a father for the second time with his wife Lourdes Montes due to give birth this month.

Ordonez’s 15-year-old daughter Cayetana is from his previous marriage to the Duchess of Alba’s daughter Eugenia Martinez de Irujo.

  1. I would love to say I feel sorry for the barbarian, I really would, but……… in truth I dont. In this cruel and barbaric act (it is NOT a sport) the idiotic men with capes and sticks think they are the masters and can kill with impunity, and every so often they are proved wrong. The sooner this ends worldwide the better.

  2. Whatever a bullfighter is, he’s not a coward. That, in short, is the point. We wouldn’t go and see a bullfight if the bullfighter was running about shrieking with fear. That would be a bit silly, rather like the majority of the ill-informed comments here sent by people who, evidently, would rather hear of other people’s misfortune or death than of their bravery and nobility. In short, your horrid remarks show more about yourselves than they do about los Toros.
