It began when the Spanish vessel Aguila IV demanded that the fishing boat stop its engines.

When the fishermen refused, the customs boat circled in an attempt to board before, according to fishermen, firing four shots and hurling bricks.

A Gibraltar government spokesperson has stated that the fishermen held all of the necessary permits to fish within Gibraltar’s waters.

He added that the Spanish vessel’s intrusion shows that the Spanish authorities ‘have put the lives of innocent Gibraltarian civilians at risk’.

  1. Just more evidence for an eventual enquiry. If this case ever gets back to the UN, or wherever, it will go against Spain very badly, especially if it ends up in a fatality.
