The couple was walking hand and hand near Almeria’s Colega (or LGBT) centre when they were verbally and physically attacked from behind.

One of the men suffered from a broken arm, collarbone and tooth in protecting his boyfriend, and required surgery upon arriving at the Hospital Torrecardenas.

Witnesses commented that the aggressors exhibited ‘neo-Nazi characteristics’.

The pair remained in the hospital following an observation period after the uninjured man suffered from a panic attack in response to the violent experience.

They have yet to submit a denuncia to the police, but the president of the LGBT centre Antonio Ferre assured the press that they would work with police to try to identify the attackers.
