TWO UKIP MEPs unfurled the Gibraltar flag in the European Parliament moments before the King of Spain began his speech.

Eurosceptics James Carver and Julia Reid posted a photo on Twitter and Facebook of them holding the flag aloft.

The pictures spread rapidly on social networks as the pair gained support for their move.

UKIP (UK Independence Party) is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom, led by Nigel Farage.

    • I think that describing UKIP as a ‘right wing populist party’ shows admirable restraint. Seeing the kind of offensive behavior illustrated in this article, one can think of more extreme, less PC terms to describe UKIP.

  1. The irony is that the flag they unfurled is of Spanish origin – if they wanted to be truly British they would fly the Gibraltar Blue Ensign, but hardly anyone on the Rock uses it. Also ironic is that Gibraltar is now more pro-EU than pro-British, which also escapes UKIP, with many people seeing the Rock’s future in a Europe of the Regions in which large nation states like the UK and Spain are dissolved and smaller ones like Scotland and Catalonia take their place.

  2. The UKIP is a racist ‘we-don’t-need-no-foreigner’ party which would like to see the UK leave Europe and sail off into a blissful future as a third rate nation. Well, that wouldn’t bother me much one way or the other, if it wasn’t for the fact that all of us Brits who live in Europe would become – at an undemocratic stroke – simply ‘foreigners’. We would look forward to work permits, visas, convertible accounts and would lose other basic rights here in Spain (voting, medical, schooling). That’s of course only if London didn’t throw out its ‘ex-EU partner citizens’ – because, if they did (including 200,000 Spaniards living/working in the UK) then we *guiris* would be an interesting target for Madrid. British gun ships in the harbour, a small bag each, no pets, no girlfriends. A trip back to Blighty and a hut on Salisbury Plain? Well, at least we’d get our British vote back. Maybe there’d be another referendum…
