FOUR British nationals have been arrested after a British man died from a gruesome stabbing in the Alicante region.

The deceased was stabbed in the neck, throat and face with a broken bottle, it was reported.

The Guardia Civil confirmed the event happened in an expat bar in Villamartin Plaza, east of Murcia, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The suspects include two men of 43 and 26 years, and one 39-year-old woman.

“We can confirm the death of a British national in Alicante, Spain on January 16,” a foreign office spokeswoman told the media.

“We are in contact with the local authorities and stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”

She continued: “We can confirm the detention of four British nationals in Alicante, Spain on January 16.”

The attack took place in a sports bar in the centre of town, and some who worked in the area saying the ordeal left them ‘frightened’.

  1. I live on the Orihuela Costa and as expected this has been a hot topic on local forums. Reliable sources/more than one source are confirming that the deceased worked as a chef in San Miguel de Salinas.

Sad for all concerned, but it highlights regular problems which frequent all commercial centres on the Orihuela Costa but the end results have never been as tragic and horrendous as this.

  2. Its a tragedy for indigenous communities that violent, drunken, anti-social behaviour is part of ‘lifestyle in southern Spanish expat and tourist communities. We, and British friends, would like to see the Southern Spanish coast, but are loathe to be anywhere near ‘pub culture’ or ‘Kneipenkultur’.
