Where you can and cannot drink tap water in Europe revealed

A NEW infographic has revealed where in Europe you can and cannot safely drink tap water. 

Created by citybase apartments, the infographic warns of diarrhoea, Hepatitis A, typhoid and cholera when drinking unclean water, or even just using it to brush your teeth.

Spain and the UK have been given the all clear, but most of Eastern Europe and Russia are a no-go for tap water, according to the infographic.

Safe to drink tap water: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and Vatican City.

Not safe: Albania, Aremnia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine.

The graphic offers some tips to would-be travellers, such as don’t swallow water during a shower always buy bottled water if in doubt.

  1. Depends on where you live. Guadix – good, Alcudia 5K away in the direction of Almeria, a local who I knew warned me that 7 people had been taken to hospital. That was 2008, maybe things have changed.
