Spain’s UN Syria resolution that threatens sanctions for anyone who breaks truce shot down by Russia

syria

syriaSPAIN and France have drafted a resolution calling for an immediate truce in the Syrian capital of Aleppo.

The resolution calls for an end to military flights over the city, where more than 250,000 people are besieged by Syrian forces.

The draft then threatens ‘further measures’ – diplomatic code for sanctions – for any party that breaks the truce.

“We consider that this is our responsibility to do absolutely everything we can do, everything humanly possible to unite the Security Council behind our efforts to end the martyrdom in Aleppo,” France’s UN Ambassador Francois Delattre said.

Russia, who supports the regime in Syria, has already shot down the draft, rejecting any grounding of aircraft and questioning the viability of a truce.

Support from Russia has seen Syrian forces encircle East Aleppo, where continued attacks have damaged medical facilities in violation of international law.

Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said the international community should be grateful for their involvement in Syria as the ISIS flags ‘could be flying over Damascus’ by now.

“The primary goal of Russia in that part of the world, in Syria and Iraq, is to throw out the terrorists,” said Churkin.

“As long as the terrorists are there, there will be no peace and quiet for the civilians, in eastern Aleppo or anywhere else.”

  1. “Aleppo besieged by Syrian forces” is a way to describe the situation but be aware that the Syrian “regime” is the democratic chosen government and Syrian forces are the legitimate army trying to free a Syrian city and its inhabitants from ISIS and “friends”.
The Russian army is the only legitimate force operating on request of the legitimate government in Syria. Any other country involved is not invited and therefore illegal. That includes Nato countries and America.
Do we want another Libia? That was a similar situation, remember?

  2. It makes no sense to always present resolutions to the UN Security Council which cannot be accepted by Russia. Russia is a key player at Syria, no matter if we like it. On the other hand, in this war where 1500 interested parties are involved, only a ground force operation ordered by the UN Security Council can peoduce a lasting armistice in Syria against ALL warring parties.
Since 5 years I ask for a solution like this:
Ban Ki-Moon has to travel to Pyeongyang and ask for a rental of 200.000 ground troops from North Korea to the UN to grant a amistice. For their rent North Korea gets 2 Billion US Dollars to reform their economy according to the Vietnamese role model, as was already claimed by Kim Jong-Un in his New Years speech 2013. Russia and China cannot veto UN troops from North Korea. Soldiers is the only good that North Korea owns in abundance. Why do we pay for a UN Secretary General from Korea, if he is not acting to stop the Syrian war? These negotiaions with Kim Jong-Un can also stop nuclear armament of North Korea.
While Obama had disposed of old iron of foreign policy at Iran and Cuba, he has never made an attempt to negotiate with North Korea as well, an old iron which during 60 years has seen no progress at all.
Instead Obama Ban and the NATO always claim that North Korea has to obey to all UN resolutions in advance. Are they kidding? Since 66 years the UN officially is at war with North Korea. Will you obey to any resolution of your enemy?

My solution has already worked in the past. The South Korean military dicator Park Jung-Hee rented South Korean troops to the US in the Vietnames War. For his rent he got 1 Billion US Dollars which he invested into the South Korean econonomy. Today South Korea is a member of the G20 industrial states. North Koreans are the same type of people. They can achieve the same status.
