Beware of the heat

SUMMER-LIKE weather is expected to hit southern Spain this weekend.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the high 20s along the Costa del Sol, according to weather agency AEMET.

But the roads are expected to be jam packed with traffic as families across the country  travel back to their ancestry family village to visit their dearly departed.

The tradition is to mark the All Saints Day, a national day in Spain that falls on November 1, which this year is a Tuesday.

Authorities have warned that this means a bumper weekend of traffic jams with a mass exodus from large cities tonight and a hellish return on Tuesday evening.

  1. Its All saints day ….. the day of the dead …… traditional day for Spaniards to visit cemetaries to honour their deceased relatives ……. actually a very nice tradition and one which is highly regarded within Spain. So, for those living in the cities etc, it is a indeed a day where they return to their original towns & villages……. hence traffic is horrendous, but the idea of the day is an excellent one – and something ex-pats should also honour if they truly want to integrate into Spanish life.
