KING Felipe VI of Spain has reached out to the areas affected by the floods currently wreaking havoc along the Costa del Sol.

The Spanish royal has taken a personal interest in Cartama and has held a telephone call with the town’s mayor Jorge Gallardo.

He asked the mayor for an update on the status of the worst affected areas, including Estacion de Cartama and Dona Ana.

“He has offered his support and hopes everything can be resolved as quickly as possible,” said Gallardo, who has also been in liaison with Junta boss Susana Diaz.

Malaga mayor Francisco de la Torre thanked the king in a tweet.

“My thanks to King Felipe VI for calling and being personally interested in the consequences of the rains affecting Malaga province,” he said.

The flash floods, caused by heavy rainfall, have caused serious damage across the Costa del Sol and claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman this morning.
