Theresa May will soon trigger Article 50

THE UK government is to reject SNP’s request for a second referendum on Scottish independence.

Theresa May has said that ‘now is not the time’ and added that the focus should be on getting the best Brexit deal for the whole of the UK.

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said Nicola Sturgeon’s demand for a vote by the spring of 2019 would be rejected ‘conclusively’.

First Minister of Scotland Sturgeon said blocking the vote would be a ‘democratic outrage’.

sturgeonShe told BBC Scotland: “It is an argument for independence really in a nutshell, that Westminster thinks it has got the right to block the democratically elected mandate of the Scottish government and the majority in the Scottish Parliament.

“You know history may look back on today and see it as the day the fate of the union was sealed.”

But British PM May made her message clear to Sturgeon, saying ‘now is not the time’, and that the UK should be ‘working together, not pulling apart.’

She added: “I think we should be working to get the right deal for Scotland and the UK with our future partnership with the European Union.
“It would be unfair to the people of Scotland that they would be being asked to make a crucial decision without the information they need to make that decision.”

  1. It’s equally fascinating to watch Spain desperately try to hold on to Catalonia and the Basque Country at all costs. We’ll give Scotland their second referendum but this time it’ll be timed to suit the whole of the UK and not just Scotland. We certainly aren’t going to allow the SNP to derail delicate Brexit negotiations. After all, as the PM said, Scotland will be leaving the EU one way or another.

  2. Very well said Mark….I agree with you wholeheartedly…….these anti British idiots really do not have a clue how patriotic we Brits are……….ill informed baffoons who deep down yearn to be British after all we are the Greatest nation on earth….hence GREAT BRITAIN….if your not British keep your pathetic views to yourselves as it only yourselves that are interested in those comments

  3. Clearly the average little englander doesn’t understand that the cases of Scotland and Northern Ireland have nothing to do with Cataluña and País Vasco.
Probably they don’t know that in Spain they have a Constitution which bans secessionist movements.
If the separatas want to have a referendum, first they have to change the Constitution, approved by 98% of the Catalanes.
Now returning to the subject, I dont think that Unelected May can deal with Brexit and the dismantling of the Disunited Kingdom at the same time.
The result will be a complete disaster, which is not a surprise when your leaders are the 3 stooges: May, Johnson and Davis

  4. Jack Daww, you forget that Donald Trump had already claimed ‘America First’ and that Theresa May was the first to visit him and to praise him for his vision and his brilliant judgement. How then can you oppose your Prime Minister and call Great Britain the greatest nation on earth?

  5. “Theresa May has said that ‘now is not the time’ ”
It seems to me that May does not understand she has not the authority to tell the Scots that now is not the time.
It seems to me she forgot she doesnt have democratic mandate.
It seems to me she does not understand she is just an UNELECTED PM.

  6. Those who compare Catalonia or the Basque country with Scotland (and/or NI) dont have the slightest clue about anything.
Catalonia and the Basque country are integral parts of Spain, and the vast majority of Catalanes and Vascos are not secessionist or separatas.
On the other hand Spain has a Constitution that protects the country from these subversivos.
Scotland on the other hand is a nation which has been parasitized by England during centuries.
They deserve to be independent and dont be attached to a country with one of the biggest debts on Earth, ruled by an unelected PM.

  7. I agree with Pablo: Scotland is an ancient kingdom that merged with the kingdon of England and Wales by an agreement, that can be derogated. I ignore if Scotland have been parasitised. But they have the right to repeat the referndum by the Brexit. But an independent Scotland will be outside the EU.

    • I suppose one could also say that about the European Union. They were country’s joined together quite recently, say over a 60 years period after WWII by the grace of the winning armies America and Britain. But some of these restricted country’s now wish to break away and to take back control of their own country’s. One must also consider that Scotland has been under British rule for hundreds of years and has reaped the benefits from the British tax payers over those years which Germany is now trying to achieve with Europe which will not happen due to the steady breakup of the EU.. I also agree 100% with Trump. He is trying to achieve what the rest of the world has been doing in making their country’s great. As for protectionist, the EU is the worse. Join our club and accept our rules if you wish to participate, if not bye bye. Now the EU is in a flap, strong man Trump has now told them, bye bye EU. See it was a good meeting between Trump and Merkel, had her way’s with Obama, but not with Trump. Could go on but pointless. lol

    • Anselmo. How many times do think a referendum should be held. Scotland had one in 2014 and that was to remain in the UK knowing also a referendum by the UK in 2015 will be held as to whether the UK will remain in the EU. The little pinky has more or less accepted that Scotland will not be able to join the EU so she is portraying that Scotland will be seeking free trade agreements similar to T.May. Scotland does not have the same clout as the UK who would be fighting free trade agreements for all of the UK, besides Scotland is more or less bankrupt and being helped up with British tax payer’s money.

in my opinion Brexit is a paradigmatic shift in politics that justifies a new referendum . I agree with you about that is not clear that Scotland have been exploited by England. When was independent Scotland was an insignificant and backwarded kingdom in an Europe ruled by mighty monarquies and she would be doomed to be conquered and sacked by England. His passedprosperity due to the oil would be imposssible without the aid of the Royal Navy.

  9. I have never been a fan of Sturgeon but she always made it crystal clear that any significant constitutional change would be a mandate for a second Scottish independence referendum and Brexit is a massive game changer. The people of Scotland voted to Remain in the EU so why should they be dragged out and have part of their citizenship stripped away from them against their will? They may not be able to remain part of the EU (Spain would definitely veto it) but an independent Scotland has a good chance of becoming a member of the EEA/Single Market and much as I don’t want to see them leave the United Kingdom, I would not blame them for voting ‘Yes’ to independence this time around.
