Opinion: British couple’s eviction highlights importance of strong community networks

homeless brits e

homeless-brits3A BRITISH couple’s eviction nightmare is a disturbing reminder how quickly the rug can be pulled out from under our feet.

Establishing a strong support network is often hard when living in a foreign country, but this is exactly what was needed for them.

The one ray of sunshine is the coming together of a community – and a Spanish Good Samaritan – who have donated dog food and even shelter to help them.

Let us hope they can get back on their feet quickly, ideally with official help too.

  1. Please get back to us when your reporter finds the rest of this “snippet”.

The Olive Press really needs to get back to basics; decent writing that manages to convey the who, what, where, when, why and how of a story.

This “article” fails all of those tests.

You do actually have editors, right?

Stop telling us how great you are and get to grips with the reality that IF you are the “best expat paper in Spain”, the others must be really, really bad, because you are not even competent…

    • Christopher, the paper version of the OP will normally have a longer version of the article. If everything was published on the blog, in its entirety, there would be no point in publishing the regular paper version which has the full and detailed version. I agree that these blog stories are mostly barely tweets, but there may be some logic in it. I also think more investigative news is needed – it seems to have stalled.

      • Agreed Fred. It’s always worth reading the on-line version of the OP publication (if your device supports it) As you say, the articles are more thorough therein.
Though it’s true, things have been a bit weird comment-wise lately, some VERY odd posts with dodgy, lazy links are showing up.

  2. These people are still there, they knew money was running short, they knew what was happening but they carried on until they got evicted. They are still clinging on to 17 dogs in the hope that someone else will pay their way. Get rid of the dogs, sort your lives out, then reassess the situation.
