THE agonies of father-of-three Dominic Shepherd can only be imagined.

Separated from his seven-year-old daughter Maia since last August, he has fought a brave court battle to win her back from his ex-partner. He has won at every stage.

To see justice thwarted because someone hides in a church can only compound the pain. Indeed, Norwegian police told the Olive Press they would have intervened by now if Tonje Brornsen was in a non-religious building.

In 2017, it seems bizarre, not to mention wrong, that the law must defer to religion, a practice now largely abandoned by the vast majority of us.
