UN set to inspect migrant situation in Spain

united nations e

OFFICIALS from a UN body are set to visit Spain to inspect the conditions of African migrants.

The officials, from the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, will meet with heads of state and government ministers in Madrid, Barcelona, Almeria and Ceuta.

During the trip, which takes five to 10 days and starts February 26, officials will meet with charitable groups directly linked to work with African migrants.

Group chief Sabelo Gumedze, said his colleagues are going on a fact-finding mission.

“We will collect information on any form of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, afrophobia and related intolerance,” he said.

The group will present their findings to the UN’s Human Rights Council in September.
